Open Garden Dates

Our garden will again be open for tours and sales during our open garden days. Open garden days for 2017 will be July 1st thru July 16th. Gardens will be open from 9am to 2pm on those dates. Other dates and times are available by appointment. During the open gardens we look forward to greeting new guests, talking with repeat customers along with new friends they bring to share the beauty of the garden. We enjoy watching first time visitors in the garden. They are almost in shock at the mass of color. If you are in the area during the open garden dates please stop by to visit the garden. During our open garden we will be giving each visitor one free daylily of our choice.

Welcome to Keast Daylily Gardens

Our garden is located in Oakland a small rural town is Southwest Iowa near Shenandoah where the AHS began. We are a small state inspected daylily nursery with somewhat limited numbers of any given daylily. Garden bloom usually starts late June and runs through late July. We have collected several bloom season extending cultivars with extra early varieties, plus late and extra late varieties. Depending on the year we can have good rebloom.

Mary and I started growing daylilies over 20 years ago. Daylilies seem to love the deep soil here in our Iowa garden and have prospered. We presently grow over 1000 registered varieties of daylilies plus our seedlings. Our interest in daylilies includes all forms from miniatures, doubles, large flower, unusual forms and spiders.

Depending on the weather we can usually start digging and shipping plants in late April through May, then again August through early September. Let us know if you need your order shipped outside of these dates and we will try to work with you. We try to ship only plants we would like to receive.

Mary and I belong to the Nebraska Daylily Society as well as the AHS. We are also very proud to have our garden listed as an AHS Display Garden in Region One.

New for 2017 we have three introductions. All three are dormant and very hardy in our zone 4-5 garden. The three plants are a fun group for us to grow. PRETTIEST GIRL I KNOW is a 7.5" UFO, MUNCHKIN PINWHEEL is a 4.5" UFO and GREEN EYED GAL at 5.5" has a large striking emerald green throat. It is not a UFO but has a full sib coming next year that is.

We are proud to again list introductions for our good friends David and Val Jean Hansen from Papillion, Nebr. They have seven introductions for 2017. All seven have toothy edges. They vary from having white edges to gold edges and some have a combination of white and gold edges. Plus some have teeth on both petals and sepals. This is an exciting group of introductions for the Hansen’s. It is hard to pick a favorite.
